Jewelry has always been my art, my voice. I don’t just create for the sake of trends—I design because I see beauty everywhere, and when I can’t find what I’m dreaming of, I bring it to life. For me, fashion isn’t about following rules; it’s about telling your story, making every day a special occasion, and dressing up simply because you love the way it makes you feel.

Before I found my true calling, I was navigating the corporate world at Google, Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft, but my heart was always chasing beauty. Inspired by Coco Chanel, Sabyasachi, and Dolce & Gabbana, I knew I wanted to create something that felt timeless yet fashion-forward, pieces that spoke to the dreamers, the tastemakers, the ones who live for the art of dressing up.

Growing up, I wandered through the bustling markets and hidden alleys of India, captivated by heirloom jewelry, intricate craftsmanship, and stories woven into every gold and gemstone detail. I realized beauty isn’t just something we admire—it’s something we live in, celebrate, and pass on. This deep love for heritage and self-expression led to the birth of Atelier Maharanibagh—a space where old-world elegance meets modern confidence.

Crafted through defiance

Let me take you to Jaipur, the Pink City, where my story begins. A city drenched in history, beauty, and grandeur—much like the world I dreamed of creating. I was born into a family deeply rooted in diplomacy and politics, a lineage of tradition and prestige. My father, lovingly known as Poppy, was a United Nations diplomat, and my paternal aunt married into the family of India’s esteemed second prime minister, Late Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri. My mother, a brilliant academic, held a Master’s degree in Botany and Zoology, carving her own path in a world of intellect and discipline.

But fashion? Glamor? Self-expression? Those were not part of our dinner-table conversations. In a home where tradition reigned supreme, my love for beauty, style, and individuality had to fight for space. My father’s protective gaze shielded me from the allure of the spotlight, yet something deep within me craved more—a world where creativity, boldness, and artistry knew no limits.

I wasn’t one to sit quietly in the background. I wanted to challenge boundaries, rewrite rules, and shatter expectations. The path I chose wasn’t just about designing jewelry—it was about creating a space where individuality is celebrated, where confidence is the ultimate luxury.

I’m of the opinion that…

Getting dressed should bring joy.. My approach to dressing is consistent, whether for work or a holiday—prioritizing comfort yet embracing joy and fun. I like owning classic pieces but I also love the latest and the trendiest trinkets!

Also why confine your jewelry to drawers and bank vaults, only to be brought out for a 'special' moment? What's the purpose of a diamond necklace if it can't be worn every day? In the end, clothes and jewelry are just things. They shouldn't demand a fortune to possess.

Where is my jewelry made?

My jewelry is for most part made in India but we also curate and source from jewelers in Italy and Belgium. Regardless of which part of the world it comes from, I can proudly say it is “Made with love” by many wonderful women and small artisans around the globe. By buying from Atelier Maharanibagh, you are supporting these small businesses and craftswomen, and I can tell you that it truly makes all the difference.
